Produced by the legendary Menghai Tea Factory in Yunnan Province, the 7572 recipe is widely regarded as one of the benchmark ripe pu-erh teas in China. First developed in the 1970s, 7572 became one of the most influential and recognizable shou pu'erh recipes ever created, serving as the standard by which countless other ripe pu'erhs are judged. The recipe combines carefully selected fermented leaves, featuring a high proportion of golden buds blended with larger leaf grades to create a tea known for its balance, consistency, and aging potential.

The raw material originates from the mountains of Xishuangbanna, a region celebrated as one of the birthplaces of tea. Located near China's borders with Laos and Myanmar, Menghai County enjoys abundant rainfall, fertile soils, and a year-round growing season that has supported tea cultivation for centuries. The area's rich biodiversity and long tea-making tradition contribute to the depth and character found in its pu'er teas.

Following production, this cake spent much of its life in Hong Kong, one of the most important aging centers in the history of pu'er tea. Hong Kong's warm temperatures and naturally high humidity have long made it a preferred destination for tea merchants seeking to accelerate the maturation of compressed teas. Over more than two decades, the city's unique storage environment has transformed this cake, softening youthful edges and encouraging the development of the deep, earthy complexity prized by collectors and long-time pu'er drinkers.

Traditional Hong Kong storage often produces a distinctive aged character marked by notes of old wood, camphor, Chinese herbs, damp earth, and antique books. When well-managed, this style of storage enhances body, smoothness, and depth while preserving clarity in the cup. The result is a tea that reflects not only its origins in Yunnan but also the important role Hong Kong has played in shaping modern pu'er culture.

In the cup, the tea brews a deep ruby-brown liquor with exceptional smoothness and viscosity. Aromas of aged cedar, sandalwood, forest floor, leather, dark dates, and medicinal herbs rise from the warmed leaves. The palate is rich and rounded, revealing layers of wet wood, walnut, dark cocoa, camphor, and molasses-like sweetness. Despite its age, the tea remains vibrant and engaging, with a lingering finish that evolves long after each infusion.

Beyond flavor, this tea delivers the comforting, grounding qi that mature shou pu'er is known for. Warm and centering, it creates a deeply relaxing session that encourages reflection and calm, making it particularly well-suited for quiet evenings or extended gongfu brewing.

More than twenty years after its production, this Hong Kong-stored Red Dayi 7572 stands as a classic example of traditionally aged ripe pu'er. Combining the reliability of Menghai Tea Factory's most celebrated recipe with the transformative influence of long-term Hong Kong storage, it offers a rich and authentic expression of mature shou pu'er that continues to reward both seasoned collectors and curious newcomers alike.
