This “Jia Ji” (First Grade) tuocha from Dali is a benchmark of classic factory sheng: tightly iron-pressed, bold in structure, and built for long aging. Produced in 2012, it has now had well over a decade to settle, transforming from youthful intensity into a composed, aromatic, and beautifully structured aged Pu’er.

The compression that once made this tuo stubborn in youth now reveals its gift—slow, graceful maturation. The dry leaf carries notes of pine resin, dried apricot, and old paper. In the cup, the liquor pours a clear amber-gold, bright and lively.

Flavor opens with camphor wood, wild honey, and dried citrus peel, followed by returning sweetness and a cooling sensation that rises through the breath. There’s a firm mineral spine and gentle bitterness that quickly turns to huigan, giving the tea energy and lift without aggression. The body is textured but clean, with excellent endurance across many infusions.

This is a textbook, aged Xiaguan sheng: aromatic, penetrating, and structurally elegant. A tea that shows how time refines strength into clarity, and why iron-pressed tuocha remains one of the most rewarding formats for long-term aging.
