Trà Phổ Nhĩ Mao Trà translates to “Pu’er-style unfinished tea.” This lot is harvested from 300 year old trees in the mist-laden peaks of Tà Xùa in Sơn La Province, where ancient Shan Tuyết tea trees grow along high mountain ridgelines at approximately 1,750 meters.
“Shan Tuyết” means “Snow Mountain,” referring to the thick white down that coats the young buds and the cool, cloud-wrapped elevations where these seed-grown trees thrive. Many of the trees in this region are several centuries old, with deep root systems that draw from mineral-rich mountain soils. Persistent fog, dramatic temperature shifts, and slow spring growth contribute to dense leaf structure and strong aging potential.
The leaves are harvested by hand by local H’Mông growers and processed in the traditional Yunnan-style sequence:
Withering → pan-firing (kill-green) → rolling → sun-drying
At this stage, the tea remains loose mao trà (mao cha), meaning it has not been steamed or compressed. This preserves the original character of the mountain leaf and allows for either loose aging or later pressing.
As a young tea, this Shan Tuyết mao trà shows:
Clear mountain aromatics
Gentle wood and resin notes
Soft sweetness with a clean, dry finish
Gradually thickening texture across infusions
The structure is firm yet balanced, with subtle herbal depth that unfolds slowly. Its density and clarity suggest strong potential for long-term aging, while already offering a grounded, steady presence in the cup.
