This Tieguanyin brings a fresh perspective to one of China’s most storied oolong cultivars. While traditionally rooted in the cliffs of Anxi, Fujian, this version is grown in the cloud-swept highlands of Alishan (阿里山)—one of Taiwan’s most celebrated high mountain tea regions.
Alishan’s high mountain environment is marked by cool temperatures, constant mist, diffused sunlight, and rich, well-drained soil. These conditions slow the growth of tea leaves, concentrating their flavor compounds and aromatic oils, and giving rise to a Tieguanyin that feels both familiar and refreshingly new.
It’s crafted from the original Tieguanyin cultivar and processed with approximately 25% oxidation and a medium roast. The result is a richly floral yet balanced tea with depth and warmth. On the nose, you’ll find layers of orchid, osmanthus, toasted almond, and warm butter. The medium roast brings a comforting aroma of roasted grain and honeyed wood, while preserving the cultivar’s signature florality.
The liquor is a clear amber-gold, with a smooth, rounded texture. Each sip reveals notes of baked apricot, creamy florals, caramelized sugar, and a hint of alpine herbaceousness. There’s a soft minerality at the base, and a lingering, cooling finish that keeps pulling you back in. The roast adds body and structure without overwhelming the tea’s natural elegance.
Ideal for gongfu-style brewing, this tea evolves gracefully across multiple infusions, offering a dynamic tasting journey—first floral, then fruity, then gently roasted and sweet.
This 2024 Alishan Tieguanyin isn’t just a regional novelty—it's a masterfully crafted hybrid of Chinese tradition and Taiwanese innovation, offering a tea that is sophisticated, aromatic, and quietly powerful. A true high mountain reinterpretation of a classic.
